I. The Apology of Socrates: Philosophy Defended

19. Philosophy is dangerous

a. “All the saints had enemies, controversies, and human conflicts,” Kreeft says. What does this mean? Doesn’t everyone -- atheists included -- have these problems? What’s the point that Kreeft wants to make?

b. Kreeft refers to Socrates' “prophetic insight.” In what way is Socrates like a prophet? What was his prophecy? Have we listened?

c. Kreeft says that democracies are not free of ignorance, prejudice, and tyranny. Do you agree or disagree? Discuss recent American experience.
