18. Philosophy is virtuous

a. Does true philosophy make someone a better person? Why or why not?

b. Socrates teaches that no one knowingly does evil. Explain what he means. Do you agree or disagree with him?

c. Aristotle believed that we all possess in our souls a knowledge of right and wrong, but that irrational desires overrule this knowledge and lead them to do wrong. He believed that the mind could and must be trained to overrule instincts and passions. What do you think?

d. Kreeft wonders whether Socrates really penetrates to the root cause of evil in society and in the individual. How does the Christian doctrine of original sin give us an answer?
