I. The Apology of Socrates: Philosophy Defended

15. Philosophy is laborious

a. Read about the labors of Hercules at the following Web site: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/Herakles/labors.html. In what ways are Socrates’ and Hercules’ “labors” the same? In what ways are they different?

b. Is philosophy laborious, as Socrates insists? Is it harder than playing an instrument or solving a complex mathematical problem? Defend your answer.

c. Kreeft argues that we can fool ourselves into thinking we’re pursuing truth, when the reality is that we’re just fooling around. What does he mean? Do you agree or disagree with him?
